I am Sam. Caveman Sam.
I stumbled upon (literally) Mark Sisson’s website, marksdailyapple.com, during the Independence Day weekend of 2009. It was a revelation. I’d heard of many of the nutritional and lifestyle principles he espoused, but the way it was all so neatly put together really grabbed me and I almost immediately decided to try it out. I knew I needed to change something. During late 2008 I noticed that when I walked, my thighs were rubbing together. This did not feel very manly, let me tell you. I had made some half-hearted efforts during the spring but it wasn’t until July that things really turned around for me — when I became (duhdadaDAAAAA! ) Caveman Sam.
Now to be honest, I still haven’t fully adopted the primal lifestyle. I consume way too much dairy (the cheese calls my name at night. Really. I hear it… kind of a squeaky voice), I’m not working out as much as I should and I have occasional bouts of weakness for the processed junk that’s everywhere. Despite all this, I’ve lost 20 pounds in three months and I more than doubled the number of pants I own that actually fit me.
I still have some fat to lose and some muscle to gain but I’m on my way. I feel like I have all the tools. I know how to do it now. (Thanks Mark!) I just need to do it.
As I’ve learned more about the whole primal/paleo/back-to-basics eating I’ve learned there’s a lot to learn. I feel like I’m way behind when it comes knowledge of nutritional concepts so I plan on focusing on what I’m good at. Food. Specifically making it. I’ve been a big fan of food for my entire life and in the last 10 years or so I’ve grown to love all things related to it’s preparation. I have a big Caveman Gourmet cookbook in the works. I hope to have it done in a few months.
Anyway, hope you enjoy the blog… if you have any ideas, comments, suggestions or complaints for me, please drop me a line.
